Form Work diary

For form i went out with grace and we photographed surrounding fields and woodlands etc. In the first picture it is a landscape shot of a field and a road, i like the composition of the image because the form of all the different elements in the picture come together, for example the canopy line of the trees the way that winds into the distance and off the picture and the way the road runs out of the picture too and the road is parallel to the fence. All the elements seem to come together very effectively this makes for a pleasing image.

There are parts of this image that i really like and other parts that i wish i did differently or would change in the future. I like how the main subject of the image is the tree stump and that is the only part of the picture which is in focus this therefore creates depth of field and good detail of the form of the tree. However i feel the picture lack some detail and i think that if the subject was taken a bit closer with less iso to show off darker tones to contrast with the blurry backdrop it could improve the detail of the tree stumps form.

Progression: Next time i shoot form i would rather shoot the human form as opposed to formation in landscape etc as i find it more interesting to shoot. It is also commonly done in the studio which gives you a chance to experiment with different lighting and would create a wider array of constructions of form.

For the second image, i would like to use the cover of darkness to show off and accentuate form as in this picture the silhouette of the two figures works very effectively in showing off the construction of the human form, these are some ideas that i would like to use whilst shooting in the future.

Texture Work diary

When shooting texture i wanted to incorporate as many different surfaces as possible, for this i decided to focus more on nature as i believed i would be able to find more types of texture there. i went out to shoot in the local town.
For the first image, i shot the lichen  on the top of a post box,  i was automatically drawn to it because of the contrast of colours, when i looked on top i realized that it was also very textured, i also really like the angle of the shot as the top of the post box is rounded and that is visible in the picture as certain parts are in focus and some are not.

 For the second image i love the contrast of the colours and the angle of the shot as it is taken from a slant and sort of follows the trunk of the tree, i love how the main subjects are the 2 trees at the front are in focus and the backdrop merges all together with the whole of the picture. originally i took the picture because of the detail of texture that i wanted to show on the bark of the tree.

Progression: in the future when shooting texture i would like to incorporate animals as they offer a lot of texture and diversity in form, i think they would be interesting  to shoot and would give a lot to the formal element.
When shooting texture i would like to shoot a closeup in a dark room as i would be able to control the amount of light and therefore get greater detail in showing off the texture of my subject.

Portraiture Work diary

For portraiture i decided to shoot two different people in front of two different colored backdrops, i wanted to show off these two shots because both pictures are different for example the first picture the subject is looking straight into the camera and the shot is only of the top part of her body whereas the second person is looking into the distance past the camera and the picture is from her waist upwards this therefore creates different perspectives and depth of fields which makes for better shots with variations. 

I like the first shot as the colour of her hair contrasts with the backdrop and the way that she looks dead-pan into the camera gives an interesting shot, the angle of the image is straight on. i like the way all the tones seem to fit and contrast with clothing and features of form. when shooting Jasmine i left her to choose which facial expressions she wanted to choose, this gave quite a natural feel to the pictures.

For the second image i gave Morgan instructions, for this particular image i told her to look off into the distance, the tones in the picture and the facial expression all come together to create a melancholy atmosphere, the contrast between black and white in this image is very effective in creating the atmosphere, the way that her expression is dead pan and yet she is looking off in to the distance makes for an interesting shot. 

Progression:

Things that i could have incorporated in my shots to make them better, for my next shoot i would like to shoot my subject in different settings for example an outdoors environment or a setting that they enjoy or find defines them in some way be it interest or aesthete, i think this would create a more image as from the landscape that the subject will be shot in, it will reveal things about them. In the second image the woman is revealing something about herself with the way that she is presenting her face, the white layer and the way that she is pinching her face as though it is a model shows that she is an actor and that she has to change her role all the time and tis is why she is presenting herself as something that is easily sculpted and changed into a different face. i would like to incorporate more flair in presenting oneself to reveal more to the viewer about the subject as an individual.

Portraiture Definition

Portrait photography or portraiture is photography of a person or group of people that displays the expression, personality, and mood of the subject. Like other types of portraiture, the focus of the photograph is usually the person's face, although the entire body and the background or context may be included.

 I love how the baby is clearly a native to the environment that she has been captured in and the lighting is all natural and illuminates her face, this makes for  a great depiction of her face.

 I like how the picture is a closeup  of her face, this image is clearly photo-shopped but i love the clarity and the contrast of light and dark colours.

 I love how natural this image is and the angle that she is sitting to the camera and how the backdrop, her eyes and her top are all matching in colour.

I love how effective the angle of this picture is so effective in showing a different perspective of the woman, i also love how simple it looks from it just being black and white.



My own definition: portraiture is the photography of a person or a group of people, it is taken to show expression of the person.

Tone work diary

When i went out to take pictures of tone, me and grace decided to take the pictures in and around the college, in residential areas and corridors etc. I like this picture of grace a lot because the light from the window illuminates one side of her and shows diversity of tone because the light from the right hand side where the light emanates from contrasts with the darker tones on the opposite side because of the lack of light, i took this purposely to show range in tone, the subtle changes in dark and light, creates a melancholy atmosphere.

Then we decided to take the shoot outside to get a wider range of tones, i decided to shoot a landscape piece, i tried to encapsulate as many different tones within this photo, i managed to get lots of different tones from trying to get as many buildings and features of a landscape as possible, shooting in black and white really helps to show off the contrast of different tones.

I wanted to use light again to show off the change in tone, i wanted to shoot landscape again but portray different features and compositions, in this image the path that i took a picture of was wet from the rain this is why the light in the image illuminates the path so much creating a very light tone this contrasts with the darkness of the overhanging trees, the way the path winds off also shows depth of field.

I don't like this image as the exposure of light overbears the tonality of the picture as the definition of the leaves are not very clear, and the image is messy in subject matter, next time to avoid the way in which the light corrupts the image it could b taken from a different angle to portray the light but to not let it overbear.

I then decided to look for tonality in different subjects, in this picture i wanted to shoot buildings, the architecture of the building shows off tonality perfectly for example the ridge that curves shows shadow and this creates another element in tonality, the different shades and darkness's in the color of the building all contrast together to show off the diversity in tone.

 I like the angle of the images as they have been purposely arranged to create a wide landscape showing a large field of perspective. The wide spread out of the pictures creates a light airy colourful perspective.




The position of the pictures run in a vertical direction the images that are stuck together are in strips this gives the impression of the water in the picture will keep running off the image, this is effective in showing off the variation of the landscape that the photo is taken in.









 The repetition of the same subjects from slightly different angles emphasizes the changes in the human form. the pictures are small and square shaped this is effective because they are closely put together and shots change.

I like how all the squares are the same size which gives the impression of order, the pictures in the image are slightly changed and repeated this gives the image quite a dramatic effect but with small tweaks to the pictures within the image, this makes the aesthetic more interesting to look at, the main subjects of the pictures are repeated to draw the viewers attention to certain parts.









The different angles taken in this image are effective in showing different views of perspective in the human form, for example one of
the shots is taken at a 90 degree angle to the front of the woman's head
this therefore shows great diversity in perspective. The way in which all
the images never align exactly gives the impression of movement.



This image is very interesting as i love how the picture is elongated by the way in which the heads of the people keep being repeated from different angles and this is also down with the landscape of the picture, i also really love how all the colours contrast and match and the changes are all very subtle and mute. the picture seems to reflect just a normal situation in which two people are having a conversation.

Joiners Definition

Definition- is a photographic technique in which one picture is assembled from several overlapping photographs. This can be done manually with prints or by using digital image editing software.

 The image is effective in showing different tones through the placement of images, i love the placement of the pictures to create a long stream of image.

 I like the difference in perspective in the picture from the arrangement of the shapes, the different angles of his head for example are excellent in showing variation in perspective.

 The space and texture of the man against the landscape is well presented by the positioning of the images, it creates a dynamic of lots of different layers and is really cool to look at.









The arrangement of the pictures recreates the entire shape of a chair, the original picture that have have been cut up to create this new chair come together to give an interesting shape.


My own definition: The arrangement of images to recreate a picture including the rearrangement of shapes and perspectives etc.
