Depth Work Diary

When shooting depth i wanted to try and shoot as many different types of subjects as possible, i wanted to incorporate both people and objects and i went out to shoot two different times and therefore got quite different shots.
In this image i decided to shoot grace as my subject as i wanted  to shoot a person against a backdrop, this image is interesting because despite Grace being the main subject of the picture and the fact that she's the closest to the camera, i deliberately made her appear out of focus making the backdrop more clear and focused than the actual subject this gives for an interesting effect to field of depth.

I love this image as the whole of the structure is in focus even the furthest of points are in focus this creates a great depth of field and really shows off the detail and clarity of the entirety of the image, the shine of the structure contrasts greatly against the sky, which gives a really interesting effect in depth as the sky is out of focus and just a merge of colour.
Progression- When shooting depth in the future, i would like to shoot it in a controlled environment as I'd be able to use light and a backdrop to accentuate an object, I'd also be able to get any type of objects and assemble them in any way to create an image. In this image i like how all the objects are the same and are assembled in a repeating sequence this creates a large depth of field as the first object is in focus but the others aren't this is very effect in showing the changes that happen in depth.

I love this image as the small lion in front is in focus and the larger lion behind the small one is out of focus, this creates a large depth of field, the way in which the 2nd one blurs out gives the effect of a future premonition as though the small lion will become the larger as soon as the focus changes depth, this gives a really interesting effect.

  1. Try to look for opportunities to use more photographic terminologies in your analysis... here is a good case in point. You have been asked to include the camera settings n your post. If you did this you would be able to use this analysis in describing depth for example "f(?) enabled me to achieve a focussed image on the main subject with a drop of in focus in the background. This is an example of shallow depth of field"
