Ruut Blees Luxemburg Research

Rut Blees Luxemburg (born 1967) is a German photographer. Her technique is to take photographs at night, mostly exploring the urban landscape. She is a Tutor at the Royal College of Art.
Luxemburg studied photography at London College of Communication and gained her last formal education at the University of Westminster. She employs long exposures to allows her to use the light emanating from the street only, for instance from office blocks or street lights in her photos. Luxemburg created a series of images for the London Underground in 2007. Many of her photographs and prints deal with nocturnal themes.

This image is great as it shows off reflection effectively, I love how simple yet interesting the shot is as it just reflects everyday normal life, the reflection is of a train station sign, the picture is beautifully illuminated in the puddle, the shot is a really warm bright colourful shot, this is the effect that Luxemburg is trying to create despite the fact that all her shots are at night. The leading line in this picture is obviously the trains station sign, which is the main subject of this piece.

This image reflects normal day life and sleep patterns as the lights clearly show all the people who are awake and vice versa, i love all the colours as within the main subject being the building, the bright lighted windows contrast with the same coloured lights in the backdrop of the picture, the image also have green leading lines being the walls and rows of windows.
I love the angle of this shot, this image has been clearly taken with a long shutter speed as all the lights on the road from the influx of traffic have been captured, this gives a really cool effect as the whole image is quite bleak and thin in colour, however all the colours contrast really well. The leading lines of the roads contrast really well against the bright green court and the top of the image, this creates a really cool effect.
I have chosen to take pictures for my photography project in the style of luxemburg as the way all shots are taken in night and of just really ordinary life really appeals to me.
